Syria is one of the most prominent countries of the Middle East relative to the Bible – both Old and New Testaments. Damascus and Aleppo are two of the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. Damascus was a very important city throughout the centuries of Israel’s first incarnations. It was a center of trade and culture and in the Christian era, it was the intended destination of Paul, the Apostle, when he was knocked from his horse and became a follower of Jesus. Syria will continue to play a prominent role in world events, as great struggles continue between Muslim and Christian inhabitants.
